Agriculture & Livestock Development and Credit Support Programme (ALDCSP)

There is scope for the development of agriculture through the provision of loan along with training and technical support. These farmers play a very important role in the growth of the agriculture sector in Afghanistan . Given the high demand for agricultural products such as vegetables, cereals, meat and milk in Afghanistan, BRAC believes that there is enough scope for the farmers to sell their products in local markets. Livestock is as important as crops to Afghan economy. Animal husbandry produces meat and dairy products for local consumption. Currently livestock products such as meat and milk are not adequate accounting for 5-10% of the agriculture sector. This reflects a relatively small stock of animals after years of conflict and droughts. It has prompted the importance of animals and poultry development in the country.
The objectives of the programme are:
- To increase agriculture products with the involvement of poor women and women headed households.
- To build up farmers' awareness and knowledge by providing technical assistance and financial support.
- To provide assistance in income generation and employment opportunities for betterment of rural livelihood and alleviation of poverty.
- To mobilize small farmers to use their local resources.
- To provide good quality poultry chicks and feed to the beneficiaries.
- To raise better agricultural practices including horticulture nursery, kitchen gardening as well as poultry and livestock.
