BRAC Microfinance Afghanistan

BRAC Afghanistan's Income Generating Programe (IGP) is the most widely implemented programme of all this organisation's programmes in Afghanistan. Keeping in mind of succesful implementation in Bangladesh, BRAC initiated its microfinance programme and small enterprise project in Afghanistan in May 2002. This programme is assited by Micro-finance Investment Support Facility for Afghanistan (MISFA) Ltd and is being supported by the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD).

BRAC Afghanistan Microfinance programme in Afghanistan has started to work with a view to create self-sustaining and reliable financial service programme for the poor, especially women. It uses a participatory, peer supported and multisectoral strategy to offer poor rural women to develop their skills and create opportunity to achieve sustainable improvement in their livlihood, dignity and self reliance.



Microfinance Programme for rural poor women (MF)
Microfinance (MF) Programme in Afghanistan has started to work with a goal to extend financial and non-financial services to support poverty alleviation in under developed areas of Afghanistan . The Programme has had remarkable growth since its implementationin mid 2002. Being in a total of 24 out of 34 outlined provinces with total of 173 Branch offices.

The specific objectives of this programme are to make credit available to poor, especially women, involve the poor in income generating activities through provision of credit, and increase economic development in Afghanistan by increasing the income level of the poor.

 


Small Enterprise Project (SEP)
Small Enterprise Project (SEP) was initiated to provide loans to small enterprises with growth potential. The programe aims to generate income and create new employment through enterprise development in the rural and semi urban areas of Afghanistan.

The objectives of the programme are to provide loan through a simple loaning process that encourages rural people to come forward and take loan without delay, provide opportunity to small/medium enterprises that fall within the working area of the BRAC Afghanistan Microfinance programme, motivate small/ medium entrepreneurs in the rural and urban areas to do better, thus creating job opportunities, and provide valuable information about production and marketing of products.

Agriculture & Livestock Development and Credit Support Programme (ALDCSP)
ALDCSP programme aiming at improving households' social and economic condition through the provision of loans complemented with training and technical support to the agriculture and livestock borrowers. Small and marginal farmers are the main target of BRAC's ALDCSP
.

BRAC Afghanistan believes that there is enough scope for the farmers to sell their products in local markets. It has prompted the importance of animals and poultry development in the country.

The objectives of the programme are to generate income and create employment opportunities for small and marginal farmers, to develop existing entreprenuers by providing technical assistance and financial support, and to increase agricultural production and practices.
